MID EAST STORYTELLERS

MALAK LAHAM

It has been long since I brushed Sally’s soft hair. Sally, my grandmother is in an old people’s home, and during the pandemic I’ve been able to visit her from behind the window glass.

The glass is a barrier, but one that made me focus on her facial expressions and hand gestures more. Stare longer into her eyes and let them communicate with mine comfortably in the silence. And instead of touch, I can sense her presence.

It reminds of how species’ senses are able to develop after one of them is lost. So what if when I am able to brush her hair again, it will be a whole different experience, a better one?
