This is not an Ulpan is a cooperative language school that builds communities in Israel-Palestine that learn about, engage with, and shape society and themselves through critical language education in order to diminish economic and political inequalities and bridge cultural and societal gaps. TINAU, established in 2012, addresses the dissatisfaction of its founders with conventional Ulpan language learning, aiming for a more practical, critical approach. It’s one of the few schools in Israel-Palestine teaching both Hebrew and Arabic, led by a team of Jews, Palestinians, locals, and newcomers. Our critical pedagogy principles encourage students to engage critically with their own identities and the complexities of Israel-Palestine with a focus on social justice. The school emphasizes a collective learning experience, blurring the lines between teacher and student.
