Spotlight on OGS Alumni in Action (Zoom)

June 4 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

In the midst of these difficult times, we are pleased to be able to showcase two OGS alumni who are leading vitally important grassroots movements in Israeli civil society.

Brit Yakobi ‘23 and Tammuz Abuelhaiga ‘17 will discuss their critical impact with The Faithful Left and The Women’s Protest for the Release of the Hostages, and their efforts to bring home the hostages. They look forward to sharing more about their work and raising awareness and support from our community.

Please join us on Tuesday, June 4 at 12:00-1:15 pm EDT.

About The Faithful Left:

The Faithful Left is a new stream of thought and action within traditional Jewry in Israel. We are members of ultra-orthodox, orthodox, and other traditional communities that emphasize our tradition’s skepticism of power and material superiority. We grew as a response to increasing racism, inequality, and militancy in our communities. We call for a return to our core principles and practices of faith. We do so through a commitment to rigorous Torah study and a commitment to individual and communal action.

About The Women’s Protest for the Release of the Hostages:

The Women’s Protest for the Release of the Hostages, a citizen-led movement that started in early 2024. Our sole aim is to urge the Israeli government to secure an immediate release deal. We are not family members of the hostages. We stand as concerned citizens who care about the soul of our country.

During the last four months, the group organized five massive marches, and other protest actions. This was the first civil movement to fight for the hostages, and motivated thousands of people to unite with the demand to reach a deal now.
